Saturday, August 30: 3-Day Weekend 3-Headed Monster Dance Party with CALVIN JOHNSON, IAN SVENONIUS, & MR. JONATHAN TOUBIN plus opener AS IF. GLASSLANDS GALLERY (289 Kent, Williamsburg), 11pm ’Äì 4am, $5: New York Night Train presents CALVIN JOHNSON and IAN SVENONIUS together with MR. JONATHAN TOUBIN for the first time in NYC since August 20006. Calvin (who spins under the moniker of Dub Narcotic Selector) is of course the leader of Olympia indie rock legends Beat Happening as well as the founder/head honcho K-Records. Washington, DC’Äôs Svenonius, who is currently the host of VICE TV’Äôs Soft Focus, also the author of the critically acclaimed essay collection The Psychic Soviet, is best known as the voice of such important underground rock bands as Weird War, Make-Up, and Nation of Ulysses. Both of these figures, who will be joined by the New York subterrain’Äôs most prolific DJ (200+ gigs already this year) Mr. Toubin, have also spent the last couple of decades establishing themselves internationally as eclectic dance party selectors of the highest order. Anything goes as three wise men trade off and tagteam, industrious as an ant colony, until early in the morning for your dancing pleasure ’Äì expect soul, garage, punk, new underground eclectica, girl groups, gospel, British Invasion, Jamaican jumpers, Big Easy bouncers, French ye-ye, Italian beat, international psych, doo wop, and anything else that will surprise, elate, and set in motion the city’Äôs heroic overworked and underpaid workforce. MONDAY SEPTEMBER 1, 2008, SANTOS’Äô PARTY HOUSE, 10PM ’Äì 4AM, $10 ($5 with RSVP): This Labor Day DECLASSIFIED honors the many accomplishments of workers that don’Äôt have to come in early on a Tuesday morning ’Äì particularly the beautiful ladies and gentlemen of the service industry who like to party, go out frequently, and know how to tip. Tonight we bring them a dynamic DJ trio of, from Olympia WA, DJ DUB NARCOTIC SELECTOR, better known as the cultural force that is K-Records owner and founder Beat Happening/Dub Narcotic Sound System leader CALVIN JOHNSON, DJ NAME NAMES, otherwise known as Vice TV’Äôs Soft Focus moderator and the voice for such legendary bands as Weird War, Scene Creamers, Make-Up, Cupid Car Club, and Nation of Ulysses, IAN SVENONIUS, and DECLASSIFIED resident DJ MR JONATHAN TOUBIN of New York Night Train. Locals CRYSTAL STILTS, whose domestic and international cult has been spreading like wildfire since their Pitchfork 8.3 and regular touring, create a unique subtle sonic fusion of minimalist post punk garage pop. PUDDIN’Äô TANG, who rose a couple of years ago from the ashes of veteran bands like the Witnesses and the Rondelles, are one of Williamsburg’Äôs top indie party bands - laying down a barrage of self-penned swampy Velvet Underground informed urban masterpieces. The stunning MS ANNA COPACABANA go go dances and the legendary MIGHTY ROBOT AV SQUAD blow your mind with their multimedia visuals. Everything the final chapter of your Labor Day party will require that doesn’Äôt involve JERRY LEWIS.

Santos’ Party House and New York Night Train got together to create a weekly underground rock’n’roll party unlike any other our city has seen, DECLASSIFIED - the finest underground rock bands and DJs in the world with projectionists, go go dancers, and performance every Monday. The last few weeks have seen not only regular house crew of DJ Mr. Jonathan Toubin and Go Go Dancer Anna Copacabana, but also performances by the likes of King Khan and the BBQ, Awesome Color, Jon Spencer’s Heavy Trash,  …And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead, James Chance, and the Homosexuals and guest DJs like Gibby Haynes, Ian Svenonius, Crypt Records’ Tim Warren, and Smashed-Blocked’s Josh Styles.     

Thursday, August 28: Boogaloo Shampoo w/NYNT Soul Proprietor Mr. Jonathan Toubin, Beauty Bar back room, (231 E. 14th), 11pm - 4am, FREE: New York Night Train's latest, one of the only weekly soul parties in the tri-state area. NYNT soul proprietor Mr Jonathan Toubin fills the Beauty Bar's sleek and sexy back room from floor to ceiling with bubbly soul, funk, and r&b classics, novelties, and obscurities to get you down all night long. Expect an extra-special surprise celebrity guest DJ from far away tonight! Supertouchy NYC hardcore legend Marc Ryan of Foreign Islands plays punky reggae and beyond in the front room.
