For \ this week's New York Night Train show list - go \ here

\

\f2\b\fs26 The Drones, Catfish Haven, Favourite Sons, Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin - Southpaw $10\ \f1\b0\fs24 \f3\fs26 I spent too much time talking up the \f1\fs24 \f3\fs26 Drones \f1\fs24 \f3\fs26 the day before yesterday. \f1\fs24 \f3\fs26 Read Thursday\'d5s recommendation \f1\fs24 \f3\fs26 if you need to know why. They\'d5re playing with locals \f1\fs24 \f3\fs26 Favourite Sons \f1\fs24 \f3\fs26 , and two Missouri bands, \f1\fs24 \f3\fs26 Catfish Haven \f1\fs24 \f3\fs26 and \f1\fs24 \f3\fs26 Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin \f1\fs24 \f3\fs26 .\ \f1\fs24
\

\

\f2\b\fs26 Dr Israel & Dreadtone International, No Surrender, Hand-Fed Babies, Caution Curves \'d0 Cake Shop: \f3\b0 \ \f1\fs24 \f3\fs26 The folks at ROIR just re-released \f1\fs24 \f3\fs26 Israel\'d5s \f1\fs24 \f3\fs26 long gone classic Inna City Pressure along with his new one, Dreadtone International: Patterns of War on ROIR. Israel takes the dub seriously \'d0 knowing good and well its inclusive possibilities. And you don\'d5t know dub until you\'d5ve heard it applied to Black Sabbath. \ \f1\fs24
\
\ \f2\b\fs26 Olive, Okkyung, Ikue and Billy\'d0 Tonic 10PM $15:\ \f1\b0\fs24 \f3\fs26 This all-star grouping of improvisers includes former DNA drummer/electronic musician/composer \f1\fs24 \f3\fs26 Ikue Mori \f1\fs24 \f3\fs26 , Medeski Martin and Wood drummer Billy Martin, DJ Olive, and virtuosic vocalist \f2\b Okkyung Lee. \f3\b0 \ \f1\fs24
\
\ \f2\b\fs26 Dr. John - B.B. King Blues Club & Grill - $30-$35: \f1\b0\fs24 \f3\fs26 In addition to the creation of what may well be the best long-playing record ever cut (if you don\'d5t know, ya just gotta figure it out for yourself), < \f1\fs24 a href="{\field{\*\fldinst{HYPERLINK "http://www.drjohn.org/"}}{\fldrslt \f3\fs26 \cf2 \ul \ulc2 http://www.drjohn.org/}}" target="_blank"> \f3\fs26 the night-tripper \f1\fs24 \f3\fs26 has gone on to do everything from the funk to the standards \'d0 all with his undeniable stamps of distinction \'d0 that voice, those fingers, and all that personality. One of a kind. \f1\fs24

\

Jimmy \ Scott – Iridium $30/$35: If it was valentines \ weekend and I wanted to get all dressed up with my sweetheart, \ I couldn’t think of a better place to be than listening \ to Jimmy \ Scott – pure class. Catch 'em while you \ can.

\

\f2\b\fs26 Richard Buckner w/ Doug Gillard, Romania - Northsix $10/$12: \ \f1\b0\fs24 \ \f3\fs26 Around way before most of the new folk crop, < \f1\fs24 a href="{\field{\*\fldinst{HYPERLINK "http://www.richardbuckner.com/"}}{\fldrslt \f3\fs26 \cf2 \ul \ulc2 http://www.richardbuckner.com/}}" target="_blank"> \f3\fs26 Buckner\'d5s \f1\fs24 \f3\fs26 been recording his deep sparse songs for over a decade now. His new one\'d5s on Merge. He appears tonight with Guided by Voiceslead guitarist < \f1\fs24 a href="{\field{\*\fldinst{HYPERLINK "http://www.douggillard.com/"}}{\fldrslt \f3\fs26 \cf2 \ul \ulc2 http://www.douggillard.com/}}" target="_blank"> \f3\fs26 Doug Gillard \f1\fs24 \f3\fs26 .\ \f1\fs24

\

\f2\b\fs26 Punk Rock/Comic Book All Ages Show: The Blackout Shoppers, World War IX, The Yams, Dave the Spazz, and over a dozen NYC comic book artists \'d0 Bowery Poetry Club 6PM $7: \f1\b0\fs24 \ \f3\fs26 Comic artists selling their wares and punk bands \'d0 including the Yams featuring WFMU/Union Pool DJ Dave the Spazz \'d0 who will also spin. How can you go wrong.\ \f1\fs24

\

D \f3\fs26 Barry Harris Trio - Village Vanguard$30-$35: \ \f1\fs24 \f3\fs26 One of the last great living bop pianists, \f1\fs24 \f3\fs26 Barry Harris \f1\fs24 \f3\fs26 , primarily a solo artist, also played with everyone from Cannonball Adderly to Coleman Hawkins to Dexter Gordon. I hear he can still go man go too.\ \f1\fs24

\

\f2\b\fs26 Edie Sedgwick, Soft Complex - Knitting Factory Tap Bar 7:30 $8\ \f1\b0\fs24 \f3\fs26 Edie Sedgwick \f1\fs24 \f3\fs26 is not the dead heiress but her \'d2transgendered reincarnation\'d3 in the form of El Guapo\'d5s Justin Moyer. Edie performs self-pinned electro-pop hits about celebrities. \f1\fs24 \f3\fs26 Soft Complex \f1\fs24 \f3\fs26 are yet another indie pop band with an Eighties twist and a British accent.\ \f1\fs24

\

\f3\fs26 Beat Circus \'d0 BAM Caf\'8e: \ \f1\fs24 . \f3\fs26 Despite their horrible name, Boston\'d5s \f1\fs24 \f3\fs26 Beat Circus \f1\fs24 \f3\fs26 are a notch above your average retro-carny band \'d0 they\'d5re more musically accomplished, their scope is wider, and they\'d5re more original. \ \f1\fs24

\

\f2\b\fs26 Boss Tweed, Mr Action and the Boss Guitars - Magnetic Field:\ \f1\b0\fs24 \f3\fs26 Boss Tweed \f1\fs24 \f3\fs26 play a fine stripped down mix of the rootsy and the loungy \'d0 with feeling. \ \f1\fs24 .
\
\ \f2\b\fs26 Deadboy & The Elephantmen, The Comas, Apollo Sunshine, Sound Team - Mercury Lounge $10: \f1\b0\fs24 \f3\fs26 Dax Riggs of southern metal cult heroes Acid Bath has recently resurfaced as \f1\fs24 \f3\fs26 Deadboy and the Elephantmen \f1\fs24 \f3\fs26 . While this type of rock wouldn\'d5t typically make this list, the factor tipping the balance is the uncommon Neil Diamond/Danzig sincerity of Riggs\'d5 voice. \f1\fs24 \f3\fs26 The Comas \f1\fs24 \f3\fs26 deliver above average indie rock as do the more textured and eclectic \f1\fs24 \f3\fs26 Apollo Sunshine \f1\fs24 \f3\fs26 . A great show for pop fans.\ \f1\fs24
\
\ \f2\b\fs26 Louie Belogenis, Shanir Blumenkranz & Kenny Wollesen \'d0 Tonic 8PM $10 + 1 drink minimum. \f1\b0\fs24 . \ \f3\fs26 Tenor man Louie Belgenis blows from a free sixties perspective. Blumenkranz is the bassist for a bunch of Tzadik band. And Wolleson has drummed with absolutely everyone from Tom Waits to God is My Co-Pilot to Bill Frisell.\ \f2\b \ \pard\pardeftab720\ql\qnatural \f4\fs24 \cf0 \ \pard\pardeftab720\ql\qnatural \f1\b0 \cf0
