Eddie Bo “Our Love (Will Never Falter)” (Blue Jay, 1965): Today’s NY Night Train YouTube Party Platter
NY Night Train just started a record of the day playlist on YouTube – the NYNT Daily Party Platter Hit up NYNT YouTube channel every day to see what’s cookin’…
Even in a city that brought us some of the most exciting musicians, producers, and arrangers of all-time, Eddie Bo’s vast, varied, unique, quality, and exciting body of work is a stands out as one of the brightest flames in New Orleans rock and roll, rhythm and blues, soul, and funk. And between 1964 and 1965 Eddie Bo produced, recorded, and pressed five of his best and most under-rated 45s on his own Blue Jay imprint. Like most of Edwin Joseph Bocage’s best work, these were supreme recordings that didn’t sell and weren’t well known until recent years where they’ve come to be regarded as some of the most essential wax in the 1950s-1970s canon. Stay tuned! I plan to include many more of his sides here soon…
“Our Love (Will Never Faulter)” is a grower – a relaxed New Orleans soul burner with a strong groove, cool horn arrangement, and a killer guitar workout that really makes the track. But of all of this all-around excellence, the highlight for me is Bo’s voice and the brilliant apocalyptic love lyrics:
“The river’s run dry/Mountains may crumble/When birds refuse to fly/And houses may stumble/When bees don’t give no honey/And countries don’t run out of money… These things may come to pass but I declare our love…. will never never falter”
Amen! Strong, timeless, and unwavering love that’ll prevail beyond the end of the world…
