Nomads, “Not For Me” (Stark, 1966): Today’s NY Night Train YouTube Party Platter
NY Night Train just started uploading an original 45rpm vinyl record every day on YouTube – the NYNT Daily Party Platter Playlist Hit up NYNT YouTube channel every day to see what’s cookin’…
Hailing from Mount Airy, North Carolina, The Nomads deliver one of the most brutal and snarling rockers ever carved into vinyl. This platter, when combined with their next and last single “Thoughts of a Madman” when supplemented with the demos Crypt Records heroically released as “From Zero Down” (1985), justifies this short-lived teenage band from nowheresville with a couple of obscure singles status as supreme garage rock deities. And check it out! What do you need that this doesn’t have? Caveman drumming and a caveman drum sound! The most minimal of arrangements! Slightly outta tune guitars chunking’ along, busting at the seams as they wait to crack open the blues scale on the breaks! Vocals with a grounds-for-expulsion attitude! Random background shouting! Dynamics in all the right places! Plus its a groove so you can dance to it! And an exemplar of the lo-fi recording aesthetic perfection that’s equally raw and punchy! The complete package! The ideal everyone aspires to but nobody attains… Its all here! I wanna thank WFMU’s fabulous TODD-O-PHONIC TODD for hooking me up with this little stick o’ DY-NO-MITE!
Not much info about these guys on the internet but you can read Tim Warren’s righteous liner notes to the “From Zero Down” comp here:

Also if you get the lp you can hear the first demo of this under its original title “This Life Is Not For Me”…

You’re listening to my daily addition to the New York Night Train Party Platter playlist. Each track here is recorded directly from the original 45 (no bootlegs, reproductions, etc) to give you an idea of what the real deal authentic vinyl sounds like. COME BACK EVERY DAY FOR A NEW FIX! Because the records pass so quickly at my dance parties, this channel is an attempt to stop and focus on one record at a time in hopes that it’ll turn you on to the artists, tracks, labels, etc. I’m just hipping myself to a lot of these records for the first time as well – so you can view this as a part of our journey to learning more about cool old records together! But mostly I hope this music moves you as much as it moves me.
Get your enjoys,
