Even if Winley Records folded for good when it went on hiatus in 1962, it would’ve been one of the more interesting imprints out there for making some very killer raw doo wop 45s – not to mention the canonical stylized motorcycle boy street tough cover of “The Paragons Meet The Jesters” LP (Tom of Finland beat your heart out!). But in 1979 they released one of the first hip hop singles of all time, label-owner Paul Winley’s daughters, Paulett and Tanya Winley’s charming “Rhymin’ and Rappin'” (Tanya is also Sweet Tee of 1980’s “Vicious Rap” fame). This record wasn’t only produced by Paul’s wife Ann Winley but she sang the funky grind b-side “Watch Dog”. This young voice is same Ann Winely who recorded a handful of killer shouters in the late 1950s and early 1960s as Miss Ann Fleming! “Just One Man” is her last and, in my humble opinion, best single for the label. Hear the band rip it up and feel Miss Ann roar!
