Saturday’s Soul Clap and Dance-Off at Brooklyn Bowl was the biggest one of all time… And one of the most fun ever as well! Over 900 people came through the doors and partied with us! Jonathan Toubin and his magic 45s had the dancefloor locked down ’til 4am and the contest was particularly amazing! Memphis rock legend Greg Cartwright of Reigning Sound and Oblivians was the dance-off selector and the judge panel was a super fun bunch of notables that included Andrew W.K., Alexei Perry Cox (Handsome Furs), Cassie Ramone (Vivian Girls), Daughn Gibson, Dent May, Mac Demarco, and Taraka Larson (Prince Rama). After five years at Glasslands Gallery, New York Night Train SOUL CLAP & DANCE-OFF moved to the Brooklyn Bowl to let more people in and make more room for dancing. Over 800 came to the first one on September 22. Jonathan Toubin got everybody down to his trademark 45s all night long. The 1AM Dance-Off (for $100 CASH (1st prize) and $75 Metropolis Vintage shopping spree (2nd prize)) had new rules so that 200 party-goers were able to enter the contest. San Francisco rock and rollerTY SEGALL was the contest selector and the judges were Ryan Schreiber (Pitchfork founder/CEO), Brigid Dawson (Thee Oh Sees), Franck Raharinosy (SPIN GALACTIC / Prince of Ping Pong), Melena Ryzik ( NYTimes ), Mikal Cronin (Ty Segall / Mikal Cronin), and Ko Melina (Dirtbombs/Little Steven’s Underground Garage).
