Prurient, Mouthus, Air Conditioning - Glasslands

OK, I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve been a bit of a masochist lately, but I can’t think of much I’d rather do than torture my eardrums with tonight’s all-star noise (un)spectacular. More than just a huge force in the noise community, aesthetically, socially, and economically, Prurient, AKA Dominick Fernow, Hospital Productions, etc is, for the unindoctrinated, about as severe as they come. Employing the bare minimum to achieve ungodly sounds live, he’s also quite the showman - in a misanthropic and self-consciously unsettling fashion. Mouthus, who’ve had a very prolific recording career the last couple of years on a diversity of obscure labels and more notorious adventurers like Ecstatic Peace and Troubleman Unlimited, are perhaps the most socially acceptable local noise act on this side of Black Dice. While the duo’s hypnotic repetition is a dynamic exploration of a rich spectrum of tonal elements, their cacophony is at the same time so brutal, sludgy, and wild that you may mistake their untamed blasts for a lack of subtlety. Ugly beauty… amplified. And despite all of the volume and general heaviness on this bill, Air Conditioning, ironically, will be the only band with drums.
