Grand Mal Record Release
March 30, 2006
- Tonic

Bill Whitten's legendary Grand Mal is at it once again - this time with the most realized recording of the project's prolific decade together, Love is the Best Con In Town. While here we find Mr. Whitten retreating to his home studio to make a very beautiful and personal piano-based harmony-filled pop record, it's not a complete departure. There're still more than enough of Bill's bittersweet urban poetry, distinctive vocals, and, even a few Stonesy rockers, to satisfy the band's old fans. The theme of the show is only members of bands that include people who played in Grand Mal or on their recordings. While we weren't able to obtain The Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev, Antony and the Johnsons, or Adam Green, we did however come up with more amazing bands than Tonic would permit - so it was pared down to a very accomplished and eclectic six acts - for one of the best bills so far in 2006 - Grand Mal, Vietnam, Damon McMahon (Inouk), The Silent League, and Twilight.
