ABOUT NYNT
New York Night Train is an online music fanzine covering the entire sonic spectrum, but specializing in profiles of legendary figures. The basis of the zine is the oral history section - in which you will find the artists telling their stories in both text and audio formats. So you can read it, listen to it, or download it to an mp3 player. Read more about NYNT here.

EDITOR'S NOTE
Happy Halloween and welcome to the first issue of New York Night Train webzine. Since this is our first voyage there are still a lot of improvements that need to be made. Nonetheless, there’s a lot here for you to enjoy. This issue is contains the first installment of Kid Congo Powers' oral history. Read more about Issue #1 here.

KID CONGO POWERS

The bulk of this issue and the next is devoted the life, career, and music of guitar legend Kid Congo Powers. Here you will find Kid’s own account of his journey across the underground rock landscape. This first issue covers 1960 to 1986. Kid discusses growing up, starting a Ramones fanclub in 1976, hanging out in the early LA punk scene, and playing with The Cramps, The Gun Club, Tex Perkins, The Legendary Stardust Cowboy, The Fur Bible, and his invitation to join Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. You can listen to the Kid's story on MP3s or read their text transcriptions. Also inside are scans of pages from a scrapbook Kid kept during his first year in The Cramps (1980 - 1981), a 1984 Creem magazine article, photos, and a look at Kid's recorded body of work from this period.
